Professional Development
It really doesn't matter how many years a clinician has been practising for. What matters more is do they keep up with the latest developments in their field of professional interest? Is their knowledge current and sufficiently wide ranging?
I have 30 years experience helping people recover from distressing tinnitus and wouldn't expect any potential patient/client - including those coming to the CBT for Tinnitus E-Programme - to work with me were I dependent upon the knowledge and skills I learned and used 30 years ago!
Here is a selection of the professional development I have recently undertaken that informs my practice and helps me continue to develop the CBT for Tinnitus E-Programme that necessarily in my view, is not limited to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy alone. The list is not exhaustive, but constitutes my main development areas in the past year to two years. My interests include, and go beyond that of developments in CBT. The current CBT for Tinnitus E-Programme reflects updated CBT approaches, which it has continued to do since 2018 when the original online Tinnitus E-Programme was transformed. Recent advances in the fields of neuroscience and trauma are particularly pertinent to our understanding of, and how we treat what is generally termed, "distress". Few of these advances are to be found in ENT/audiology related research; rather they are from published research and expertise in their respective fields. The majority of my current development is through PESI UK. Some are new areas of professional development; some are continuing professional development.
